Well off to a rousing start... 9am class to get to and I wake up at 8:30. In my defense, I was busy breaking out of an Azkaban-like prison that had cough cushions for walls to the prison cells...so that was important for me to accomplish before I woke up. 2 classes in a row now, animal behavior first then comparative vertebrate anatomy at 10:00. Will update again once these classes are over.

Am I a man? Or am I a muppet?! (currently listening)
12:02pm
finished up with my morning classes now. Animal Behavior with Dr. Sawrey consisted mostly of hyena talk, and how females are... well masculine. more info is here, if you are interested. this has been covered extensively in my mammalogy class, so it was kind of a review for me, but i am sure was rather confusing for some non-bio majors in that class. that class was followed by Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy with Dr. Van Tuinen. we spent today talking about a really neat paper he gave us to read about dinosaurs, and how we think their bodies worked. surprisingly interesting classes for the AM today.
at work now! my job at work consists of sitting at the front desk for either the writing center, or the learning center, both of which provide tutors for students to get help with all sorts of subjects. before working here, i had no idea that these places existed :)
while at work, i have a whole list of things for me to do, including: watch cougar town from last night, fuck around on tumblr, keep writing on this thing (including possibly finding entertaining pictures to share), & work-related stuff (mostly answering the phones and telling them i have no clue what to do, and asking them to call back later). will return later! am at work until 2.
2:13pm
and now it is time for things i have experienced on the internet thus far that are worth sharing.

it's been a while! lots has happened since i last updated. lets get right to it.
watched a few episodes of Young Justice with Kelly. it is a really great cartoon, and it fills the void nicely that has been missing ever since Justice League went away... :(
went to Conservation Biology after that, which was thoroughly boring. still amazed that Dr. Arbogast is up and teaching. surprisingly resilient, and hasn't made any changes to the class thus far.
then got in an argument with a professor... so i am in a BIO495 senior seminar class on sensory biology. we have to submit a paper to discuss in class, and i found this really cool one on sheep taste & their preferences for umami over bitter hay, even when the bitter hay is made nutritionally superior. i thought it was really cool, but the prof shot it down because it is too psychobehavioral, and not cellular, like the focus of the class has been. i sent her an email then that read this:
i have attached multiple alternatives to my originally submitted paper, along with my original. I would like to put forth the argument that my original paper on sheep taste response is of more personal interest to me, being focused on animal behavior (along with population biology) as my primary biological background, as opposed to cellular function. I think that this paper adequately fits under the constrains of sensory biology, just does so in a more behavioral basis than the cellular basis that we have focused on thus far in class. I understand if it is still not acceptable, and have 3 alternatives, all of which go more in detail into the cellular based functions that we have focused on thus far, that i would be willing to do for my paper:
Taste as a Factor in the Management of Nutrition - 1st choice of alternatives
The taste of fat
Neurophysiology of Gustation
thanks, i hope to hear back from you soon! :)
hopefully this will let me do my original choice. if not, oh well, the taste of fat paper is published by the journal of Meat Sciences, which just sounds awesome! will update this again probably one more time today to cap everything off. :D

here we are. end of the leap day. since before, i have done mostly nerd things. it is wednesday, which means new comics wednesday, and justice league #6 came out, so that was a fun read. was the finisher for their first story arch, so tied everything together nicely.

that evil looking dude is Darkseid. he's a pretty badass villain, contrary to his opening wikipedia picture |
