Robins part 2

without further stalling, the conclusion of the Robin's post from last week

Tim Drake

Tim drake was the robin that batman needed the most. after jason's death, batman went without a robin for a very long time; years in fact, in real time. tim drake, was just another kid, but boy was he smart. he followed batman's sightings & noticed the decline in his work once robin mysteriously vanished. he also was a huge fan of Hailey's Circus, where Dick grew up. he eventually figured out that Dick was the first robin, which led him to the realization that bruce wayne was batman. thus far, he is the only robin to ask for the job, and not be offered it.

with his is Cassandra Cain, Batgirl

so right away, this is a very different character than dick or jason. while both of them were fighters, tim was a thinker. he was not physically superior in any way, and thus had to problem solve his away out of many situations. but he was insistent on being robin, because he could tell that batman needed a robin. to bring a light to the dark. that right there should be enough to cement him as a more interesting character; he was elfless enough to try and help batman in any way that he could, even though it clearly meant a lot of hard work on his part.

This is Red Robin. the persona Tim Drake took up after he left being robin

but Tim loves the work. it could be said that no one enjoyed being robin more than tim did, because he wanted it so badly. even after bruce died, tim was still supporting him, refusing to give up hope, and he had to abandon the robin mantle to do so. none of this is to say that he doesn't suffer from the same losses as the others; infact, tim's personal life losses were more directly related to being robin than anyone else's making it all the more difficult for him to carry on. he lost his mom, dad, and girlfriend all to the crime wars in gotham he was fighting against; but he was able to pick himself up every time, and show that he is bigger and better than anything anyone can throw at him.

Stephanie Brown

this is the often forgotten robin of the group, and (unfortunately) rightfully so, as her tenure was by far the shortest. however, she was still a main universe robin, and that is what i am focused on, thus she gets a talking point.

now, don't take that first disclaimer the wrong way. stephanie brown is one of my favorite characters in all of comics. but she didn't cement herself as that because of her time as a robin. her biggest contibution to the gotham world is her time as Spoiler, and Batgirl. she was always known for never backing down from a fight, even when she couldn't win, and that she was the beacon of hope in an otherwise gloomy batcave. she was offered the role of robin after tim quit (for a brief time) and she was able to earn batman's respect during her short time. but it was as spoiler and batgirl that she made her imact as a strong willed, level headed, and more importantly, relatable character.

Damian Wayne

The 5th, and most recent robin shares a strikingly similar last name to Bruce... because quite obviously, he is his son. he was bred to be the perfect assassin, by his mother Talia al Ghul. once itroduced to his father however, he chose the path of good, and wanted nothing more than to be respected, and loved by his father. unfortunately, very soon after damian's introduction, Bruce "died" and thus the mantle of the Bat fell to dick grayson. dick took it upon himself to take damian as a new robin, and thus created the newest incarnation of the dynamic duo. damian was crass, bold, violent, and unforgiving; providinig an unusual dynamic for the crime fighting pair.

however, over time damian softened, and his more human side came through. he was at his core, just a frightened 10 year old boy at times, but too proud to show it. he wanted so badly for everyone to respect and fear him, that he lost his childhood to training to become the best. he wanted to take over as batman, but often realized that he lacked the maturity to handle the big situations that the cape & cowl require. few modern age created characters have the layers of depth show in damian, rivaling those of the first robin, Dick grayson

So, i think i can safely say that all of these characters, are more interesting than the grumpy old bruce wayne. i dare say, they're better. whereas he is drawn from his singular story, all of these have multifaceted personalities that are equally rich, and in some cases, much more compelling. if you don't like Robin, any of them, then you are wrong.
